Musing 2008

I have to admit, I cheated with this photo, turning it sideways to give the appearance of zipping through the water in some apparent jet propulsion mode.

In reality, it was floating gently towards the top, ever so slowly.  I don't generally screw with my photos.  In fact I prefer my shots remain in their natural state in order to add credence to my photos. This one however, was begging to pretend speed.  A stop watch would have revealed an astounding one foot per hour.  Not exactly heart pounding and much different then this photo depicts.

Now, you have to admit, this is just flat pretty.  Yes, this is the actual orientation and position of this fish.  See, once you mess with one photo, all of them become suspect.

This is a Newt and he wasn't a part of the Aquarium Exhibit.  I have photographed ten of thousands of these buggers on the land during their yearly mating ritual.  I have also seen them in the water before but this is the first time I have seen one swimming and the unusually large paddle like tail.  When they are lumbering around on land like a turtle on steroids, the paddle like tail is either not noticeable or it disappears for land travel.
This one was in a small cow trough sized puddle with about five or six others in an apparent attempt at foreplay, from the looks of it.

You're going to say, "Boring." as I go through my Lichen photos.  I can't help it.  I am liking my Lichen.  I am intrigued by their sheer numbers as well as the great job they do of showing up on practically everything and every place.  This one was caught off guard as it wasn't attached to any thing.  I was attached to it because you don't usually see Lichen with grass surrounding it.  I loved the contrast of the colors and the beads of sweat pouring off of the Lichen.

Such variety.  I wish I had put a coin next to this Lichen so you could get an idea of the delicate nature and size of this growth. This is actually a 1:1 pixel shot crop and depicts the Lichen at about 3x it's actual size.  Now, do you see why I am liking my Lichen?
