Road Trip 2007

Destination, New Orleans

Chapter 4

Ending up in LA after OK, TX, and AR

"Ain't That Weird?" as Dave Gardner, a 60s comedian would have said.  Yes, four states in one day of traveling.  This is easy to do if you are just touching the corners of TX and AR.  I went from OK down to Texas, across to Texarkana in Arkansas  and then south to LA.

I am camping again, this time off of Caddo Lake in LA.  Caddo Lake straddles TX and LA so I can see TX from where I am camped in LA.  This lake has trees growing out of it also.  "Ain't that weird?"  I am parked next to the shore with a huge campfire to scare off the alligators.  Not really but I am sleeping tonight in my gator proof car, just in case.

The scene I woke up to this morning.  Very surreal and peaceful.

Funny thing about my recent travels.  There are churches every ten feet and southern speak.  A lot of the churches have signs posted out front with messages to entice you in:  "In the Dark?  Bask in our son."  "Seven days without prayer, makes one weak."  Or the ranger here at Caddo Lake, "The one thing we have here in Louisiana is gators and squitters."  Or getting directions to this park, "You can't miss the big ole sign, just past ohh seti."  It wasn't till I saw the sign for Oil City, that I even had a clue what was said.

The ranger did tell me about the trees growing in the water.  They are Cypress and they only grow in the water.

GREAT NEWS!  I finally got a hold of and talked to a person in New Orleans about my arrival as a volunteer.  They have a room ready for me and a key and somebody for me to work with.  Life is good.  I had no concrete commitment from them prior to leaving.  It was a little dicey but it worked out in the end.

A typical camp Jay, scrounging a meal off of the tree bark.  What a fuzzy behind he has.

It appears the Dam planning committee and the Camp Site planning committee were in different states when this lake side camp site was constructed.

These are beetle like bugs skimming the water.  From a distance, they appeared to be air bubbles rising to the surface.

Pretty, isn't he?

Just a pretty and cooperative Dragon Fly

I see these all over the place.  One state calls them the Desert Sun Flower.

More Dragonfly

A Woodpecker.  Not sure what kind.  I didn't bring my bird book with me so I can't look him up.

This is the prettiest reflection photo.  Check it out.  Look closely to find where the reflection starts and stops.

I'm outdoors and the mosquito's are determined to leave nothing of me for the alligators.  I'm getting inside the car before I have nothing left to give to the Red Cross.
