Chapter 7

A Day at the Baton Rouge Zoo!

I like to go to zoo's.  They offer great, if not exotic, photo opportunity.  On the other hand, I can't help but view them as prisons, as well.  I admit that I tend to pretend the animals are humans with nobody to plead their case, like an Iraqi in Guantanamo.

This very first picture pleads my case for me and the animals.

Please sir,  I haven't raped, murdered or stolen.  Why am I here?

The Warden and his Assistant.

Guess which one is the scratching post.  Maybe they are practicing Taekwondo?

This one looks like Yoda to me.

"Yeh, I'm black and I have spots.  So what?  Your ugly without spots and your mother is ugly too.  Grr!"

"My tail is asking, "My aren't we pretty?"  All this pretty and still no time off for good behavior."

WTF do you want?  Photos are $10 apiece.  (We need bail money.)

I want one.  I just want one.  The one on the right.  They are large like dog size and they look like a lot more fun (then a dog.)

This is a Water Moccasin aka a Cotton Mouth.  They are very poisonous and not exactly a normal zoo resident.  In another words, he is a squatter here. I suspect because it is finding a plentiful supply of food.  One of the zoo visitors within ear shot of me, was visibly upset and wanted to grab a weapon of any kind and dispose of it.  Not a very revered species, from the sounds of it.

At home, I watched a hiker dispatch a rattle snake on a trail I hike on a lot.  No respect for nature.  All the hiker had to do was give it wide berth and let it be on its way.  About the only thing he accomplished was depriving some coyote of a meal.  What he did, certainly didn't protect me or impress me.  Wild life needs to be left alone, avoided and respected.

I don't have fingers to cross, that's why.

A Cardinal.  Very pretty colors and style.  Not a zoo resident but still....

A very sexy flower: right color, right size, right equipment.

The Eyes have it.  Can you guess the animal?  I can get two out of three, so if you have to know, scroll down to the bottom of this page.

Zzzzt, night, night.  I did this page by camp light with the mosquitos flitting about me in anticipation.
