Chapter 9

Whas Up!

I don't have much to say, Just lots of photos taken over the last weekend and last night.  I have a room on the south side of the city so I went North to the Lake (the one that breeched the levees) on Saturday.  On Sunday I went east to visit Bourbon Street (The French Quarter) focusing mostly on Neon signage.  Monday evening, a stroll east on Magazine Street.   A street of the original New Orleans some refer to as "Old" New Orleans.  Magazine street is a block away from where I am staying (on Napoleon Street.)

You are going to hate me for this posting, a 3x11 matrix of just pictures requiring lots and lots of scrolling in the vertical direction.  If you right click on a photo and select "view image," you can see the 600 pixel version of the photo (4x viewing.)

This is the "Lake" that the levee I drove my Chevy too, wasn't there.

A bird on the manmade shore of the "Lake"

Just a float for what purpose I don't know.  I just liked the waves surrounding it.

A Chocolate Chip Cookie, with a Hershey Kiss in the center.

Blue moon, blue crabs, let eat!  This is what they catch on a Saturday afternoon for dinner later.

Draw, bridge!

Can you make out the HP rating? 275!  Man, this boat has got to move quickly.

I went down to the French Quarter.  This picture was so I could keep track of where I parked.

Hmm, sounds sexist to me.  You have to wonder though, just how ugly?

Not a neon sign but still, colorful.

Just some more neon.

Larry who?  If you guess you get a prize.

This is a frequently held bottle of beer in this town.

Don't ask.  If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be ordering it.

I was attracted to the disarray coupled with the unusual street name.

A mule and a tongue.  He was trained to go on a verbal command of click click.  So I did that and he was almost at a full trot before the wagon master reined him in.  Too funny.

My new girlfriend.   Ignore the obvious joints were her hands are affixed to her arms.

A lot of Army green.

Sunset through the obscurity of the urban blight.

Flowers, can you believe, I took a photo of flowers?

Just a shop featuring stained glass.

There is Magazine Street and a side street with a gas station and then this house.  This is typical of this area.  Pockets of nice (Magazine Street for instance) and pockets of abandonment.  A lot of this is due to the insurance companies not kicking down for things that were covered.  The lawyers of course enjoy this discourse.  It's to bad that the money used (wasted) on litigation, couldn't have gone to the people (home owners) who need it.

I love this guys sign.

Hurricane aftermath? atop a tall antenna mast.

More neon, sorry.

An artsy entrance to an Artsy Cafe.  I love when people go to this trouble to make their business stand out in a tasteful way.
